Get Ready… Heat & Humidity are going to soar
This weekend was only a taste of what’s to come this week. Temperatures and humidity are going to get uncomfortable to say the least. Dangerous heat indices will persist through the July 4th weekend.
Monday through Thursday will be the warmest with heat indexes 100°-107°, sparking the National Weather Service to issue a Heat Advisory.
HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON MONDAY TO 8 PM EDT THURSDAY
- WHAT…Heat index values up to 106 expected.
- WHERE…All of central Indiana.
- WHEN…From noon Monday to 8 PM EDT Thursday.
- IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
- Monday (June 29): High of 92°F. Intervals of clouds and sunshine with heat index values flirting with the triple digits.
- Tuesday (June 30): High of 93°F. Sunny, hot, and very humid. Outdoor activity should be paced carefully.
- Wednesday (July 1): High of 94°F. Mostly sunny and hot; uncomfortable conditions persist.
- Thursday (July 2): High of 94°F. Mostly sunny with little to no rain expected.
- Friday (July 3) & Weekend: Highs in the low 90s with increasing cloud cover and a 40-50% chance of scattered thunderstorms providing some cooling.
Take precautions this week especially if you primarily work outdoors.
- Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
- To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
